Up to 12 units of select CSU Bakersfield multiple or single subject credential coursework or up to 9 units of approved multiple or single subject credential coursework from another institution may be applied toward program completion. No credential coursework can be older than 5 years at the beginning of the program and no older than 7 years at the completion of the program.

Program Description
Master of Arts Degree in Education is intended for educators who are seeking to enhance their skills and understanding of curriculum development, assessment, and educational leadership. The concentration in Curriculum and Instruction is available for those individuals who have completed a multiple or single subject teaching credential. Some post-baccalaureate credential program coursework may be counted towards the Master of Arts degree in Education specializing in Curriculum and Instruction if approved by an advisor and the units were not counted towards the undergraduate degree.
Admission Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university
• 3.0 GPA in last 60 units of academic coursework
• Valid Teaching Credential
• Two Professional References
• Completion of a basic statistics class with a grade of C or better
In order to successfully complete the online M.A. in Education - Curriculum and Instruction program at CSU Bakersfield and graduate, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 30 semester units of coursework.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in all coursework. No course with a grade lower than a C will be counted in the program.
- Complete Core coursework with a grade of B or better.
- Complete a Culminating Activity with a grade of B or better.
- Proof of GWAR Completion
- Technology Survey
- Candidates whose GPA falls below term or cumulative GPA of 3.0 will either be placed on probation or dismissed from the program. Students who do not meet the terms of probation will be dismissed from the program
Graduation Requirements
- Completion of a minimum of 30 semester units of coursework

- Completion of a Culminating Activity with a grade of B or better. Students who do not earn a B in their first attempt will be allowed a second attempt. Students who do not pass with a B or better with their second attempt will be dismissed from the program.
The M.A. in Education - Curriculum & Instruction program is composed of 12 units of required core courses, 15 units of electives, and a 3-unit Culminating Activity. Master's programs require currency of coursework; no courses over seven years old will be counted toward completion of a graduate degree.

Students in the M.A. in Education - C&I program have the option of earning an Added Authorization, Reading & Literacy certification through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) by taking all 12 units of literacy elective courses and having three years of credentialed teaching experience. These courses also count as electives in the program, and students have the option of completing one or more literacy courses to fulfill elective requirements without earning the certificate.
